The International Cricket Council (ICC) has declared that five matches of the Women’s ODI World Cup, which were initially set to occur at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, will now be held at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. This decision was made due to safety concerns regarding the Bengaluru venue.
The tournament is scheduled to commence on September 30, 2025, and the DY Patil Stadium, with a capacity of approximately 45,000 spectators, is considered well-equipped to host international cricket events. The venue has successfully managed both domestic and international matches, providing modern facilities and infrastructure for players and fans alike.
Karnataka authorities conducted a review of the Bengaluru stadium after a previous incident raised safety concerns. Following this evaluation, the state government revoked the clearance for the stadium to host World Cup matches, leading the ICC to choose an alternative venue.
As per the revised schedule, Navi Mumbai will host two group-stage matches featuring the Indian team, including games against New Zealand and Bangladesh. Furthermore, the stadium is anticipated to host the second semi-final on October 30 and may also host the final on November 2, contingent on the outcomes of the earlier rounds.
ICC officials have stressed that the safety of players and spectators is a primary concern and stated that this change will facilitate the smooth execution of the tournament. They highlighted that the facilities at DY Patil Stadium are fully equipped to meet international standards for high-profile matches.
Cricket fans are encouraged to check official ICC channels for updates on tickets, match schedules, and other event-related information.
