The E-commerce & Technology Start-ups sector is propelling new hiring in India, showcasing a remarkable 88% intent for the July–December 2025 timeframe, as per the latest Career Outlook Report (HY2 2025) released by TeamLease EdTech. This report emphasizes strong opportunities for first-time job seekers across key industries, with Retail (87%) and Manufacturing (82%) also demonstrating significant hiring intent for fresh graduates. Among various cities, Bangalore tops the list with an 81% intent, followed by Mumbai at 67% and Chennai at 59%.
Although the overall hiring intent for freshers has slightly decreased to 70% for the July–December 2025 period, marking a 4% decline from January–June 2025, there are still ample opportunities in high-growth sectors. This change is linked to AI-driven workforce restructuring, uncertainties in global trade, and a strategic emphasis on retaining experienced talent in essential industries.
The report indicates a consistent increase in the demand for degree apprentices, with Manufacturing (37%), Engineering & Infrastructure (29%), and Information Technology (18%) leading the charge. Bangalore, Chennai, and Pune are leading in apprenticeship hiring intent at 37%, 30%, and 26%, respectively. Additionally, smaller organizations are showing a significant tendency to hire freshers compared to larger companies, although their hiring capacity remains somewhat limited.
Shantanu Rooj, Founder & CEO of TeamLease EdTech, stated, “The strong hiring intent in E-commerce & Technology Start-ups reflects the dynamic growth in this sector, creating exciting opportunities for freshers. As industries evolve with technology, freshers who combine technical expertise with adaptability and interpersonal skills will find themselves in a favorable position. The increase in degree apprenticeship programs further highlights the demand for practical, skill-based learning pathways.”
There is a continued high demand for positions such as IoT Engineer, Cloud Engineer, Process Automation Analyst, Junior NLP Developer, Content Marketing Executive, and Junior Actuarial Analyst. Essential domain skills in demand include Cyber Security, Data Storytelling, and Prompt Engineering.
